Non-surgical advancement genioplasty with hyaluronic acid injection

It is usual to distinguish two types of chin according to their length and position in relation to the tip of the nose, determining a more or less harmonious profile:

To achieve this, Dr Christelle Santini chooses a highly cohesive volumizing hyaluronic acid (Juvederm VOLUMA, for example), which helps recreate facial relief without the new volumes suffering from the weight effect.

This hyaluronic acid can be used on the chin for a harmonious, immediate result that restores strength and openness to the face.

The quantity of hyaluronic acid to be injected will depend on the projection of the chin: the further back the chin is, the greater the quantity to be injected.

One to two syringes are generally required.

Too large volumes should be avoided, otherwise the hyaluronic acid will absorb more quickly.

On average, the chin degrades naturally in 18 months, which is why chin injections need to be repeated every year or 18 months, depending on the individual.

The treatment is carried out at Dr Christelle Santini's office, after checking that there are no contraindications. As a precautionary measure, this aesthetic medical procedure is essentially forbidden to pregnant or breast-feeding women. Precautions must also be taken for patients suffering from autoimmune diseases. Finally, it is important to watch out for the presence of infection at the injection sites, such as folliculitis of the chin.

The hyaluronic acid used by Dr. Santini is pain-free, since it contains lidocaine, an anesthetic that reduces unpleasant sensations during injection sessions.

However, she can also prescribe a prescription anesthetic cream (such as EMLA®), which can be applied one hour before the session to eliminate any pain.

Even though, unlike a surgical operation, it is not necessary to fast before injections, certain precautions must be followed to ensure optimal results:

Aspirin should not be taken the week before and 5 days after the chin augmentation procedure. This will prevent bleeding.

To preserve hyaluronic acid gel fixation as much as possible, avoid excessive sun exposure and alcohol consumption in the days leading up to chin injections.

Injections of hyaluronic acid into the chin are carried out in the doctor's office and take around 15 to 20 minutes. It is advisable to apply anaesthetic cream 1 hour beforehand to numb the area to be injected for optimum effect.

This medical genioplasty session is most often performed with an atraumatic foam cannula, to cover volumes harmoniously. Dr. Santini can also perform manual reshaping to enhance the contours of the chin.

There are no scars or marks after the injection. In some cases, there may be slight bruising after the chin augmentation session. Unlike surgical genioplasty, there is no need to avoid social life.

The final result of hyaluronic acid injections in the chin is immediately visible, but you need to wait 10/15 days to appreciate the final result, once the oedema has subsided.

To enable Dr Santini to follow up on the effects of the injections, a consultation two weeks after the session will be proposed for a possible touch-up.

Hyaluronic acid is gradually absorbed by the body, with an average effect of 12 to 18 months. Regular sessions, usually once a year, are therefore necessary to maintain this new, harmonious chin.
