Surgical facelifts

Dr Christelle Santini, a physician and plastic surgeon in Paris, performs facelifts.

A facelift is a cosmetic surgery technique designed to tighten the body's skin and skin muscles, while removing excess skin.

It's the treatment of choice for sagging skin, when tissues are too distended to regain their original contours.

This surgical procedure reshapes the operated area, restoring its youthful appearance with firm, smooth skin that hugs the contours as closely as possible.

Dr Santini applies this technique to different areas: face lift, breast lift, arm lift, thigh lift, tummy tuck.

What is a facelift?

Over time, the skin on the neck and face tends to slacken. Our lifestyle, our environment and our genetic heritage are all responsible for this aging process.

With age, skin loses its elastin and collagen fibers, altering both its firmness and elasticity. A similar phenomenon affects the connective tissue enveloping the skin muscles, the SMAS or superficial musculoaponeurotic system. As a result, the oval of the face sags into an inverted V-shape, and wrinkles eventually mark our face, making it look more tired and dull, despite a healthy lifestyle.

The facelift, or cervico-facial lift, remedies this by correcting the damage of time, treating sagging features and the loosening of the oval of the face. Volume ptosis will be corrected and the neck smoothed, enabling patients to regain physical and psychological well-being.

This facelift can be performed on the entire face (LCF or cervico-facial lift) or only on certain areas.

  • The temporal lift targets the lateral part of the eyebrows to eliminate crow's feet and lift the eyelids.
  • The mini-lift covers the entire face and neck, but is less invasive than the LCF.

Dr. Santini's objective is not to modify your features, but to enhance their appearance, without ever altering your facial expressions. It's a rejuvenation of features that doesn't erase your identity or your expressions. The surgical procedures performed are usually painless, but require a 24-hour hospital stay (with an overnight stay to ensure quality nursing care). Generally, it takes around ten days to return to your daily activities and regain the youthfulness of your face.

What is a breast lift?

Breast lift or mastopexy is designed to correct breast ptosis by straightening sagging breasts. Over time, and for a variety of reasons such as pregnancy, weight loss or hormonal disturbance, the breasts tend to empty and the skin to sag. Any patient can easily make the diagnosis at home, using the pencil test placed in the mammary fold: if it doesn't fall out, breast ptosis is likely.

This breast lift to correct breast ptosis will restore the shape of the breasts by removing excess skin, condensing the mammary gland and lifting the areola and nipple.

Mastopexy can be combined with a breast reductionbreast reduction, breast implants or lipofilling to further harmonize the figure and enhance sensuality.

This breast lift is performed in the operating room, under general anesthesia and in hospital. The operating time is 1h30 to 3h.

What are the different facelifts for rejuvenating the figure?

The rest of the figure is subject to the same mechanisms of skin slackening as the face, with tissues losing their tone (firmness, elasticity...), and a deleterious effect of gravity sometimes accentuated by weight gain or yo-yo dieting. A facelift treats volume ptosis and excess skin, to restore a rejuvenated, firm and toned figure.

This facelift is often combined with liposuction of excess fat.

  • The tummy tuckalso known as abdominoplasty, is a facelift technique used to treat sagging abdominal skin and restore a flat stomach. The procedure involves liposuction of the tummy, removing fat from the abdomen and flanks, then removing excess skin before tightening the rectus abdominis muscles (diastasis). This type of abdominal surgery is generally performed following a post-pregnancy tummy tuck (mommy makeover) or simply for aesthetic purposes, to lose tummy fat effortlessly.
  • The arm lift or brachioplasty, tightens the skin on the inner arms, an area that tends to sag over time and become soft, even flabby, resulting in bat-like arms. The operation is generally performed following significant weight loss, pregnancy or simple aging of the skin.
  • The thigh lift or cruroplasty is available to tighten the skin. In the end, the figure is elongated and reshaped, becoming slimmer, more toned and younger-looking.
