Hymenoplasty or hymen reconstruction

Hymenoplasty is surgery to repair a torn hymen, most often after it has been ruptured during sexual intercourse. However, the great fragility of this vaginal membrane means that hymenal rupture cannot always be associated with loss of virginity.
The aim of the operation is to reconstitute the hymen, without any visible trace.
In accordance with the law, no certificate of virginity is issued.

What are the indications for hymenoplasty in Paris?

Hymenoplasty is a surgical technique used to reconstruct a torn hymen. The aim of hymenoplasty is to invisibly repair the hymen, which is usually broken after sexual intercourse. However, this is not always the case, as a hymen can also break spontaneously, for example during sport (dance, gymnastics, horse riding, etc.).
Dr. Christelle Santini, a plastic surgeon in Paris, is one of the few women who perform hymen reconstruction or hymenoplasty in Paris. She gives her patients a great deal of empathy, to understand the underlying intimate causes.
It's a membrane repair from a surgical point of view, but it's often symbolically the repair of an inner scar.

Dr. Santini's strength in hymen reconstruction lies in his all-female team (surgical assistant, secretary), who take charge of all matters relating to modesty and intimacy from the outset, with a great sense of listening.
Everything that is revealed during this consultation is of course subject to medical secrecy, which is absolute in France. No one but you will have access to your medical file. Please note that as of August 24, 2021, the law prohibits the issuance of any certificate of virginity.
Dr. Santini will be happy to answer any questions you may have about hymen reconstruction surgery.

Will I bleed during sexual intercourse after hymenoplasty?

After hymenoplasty, there is usually some bleeding during defloration, as is often the case with a native hymen. But this is never 100% guaranteed. However, hymen rupture is quite straightforward and leaves no room for doubt.

Are there any risks involved in hymenoplasty?

There are very few risks associated with this procedure. As with any surgical procedure, there may be hematoma, infection, disunion and local sensory disturbances, which are generally temporary. It's a simple, rapid and minimally invasive procedure.

Can a relative have information about the hymenoplasty that was done?

Absolutely not. Medical confidentiality is total. No one but you has access to your medical records. The surgeon cannot give any information from your medical file to a third party, regardless of family relationship.

What to do before the hymenoplasty procedure?

A cosmetic surgery consultation at least 15 days before a hymenoplasty is recommended.

The 15-day deadline is a legal deadline.

Dr Santini will perform a clinical examination with modesty, and will listen to you to understand the causes, without ever judging. Any reason that justifies a form of internal suffering is, by its very nature, a good reason.

Dr Santini will explain expectations and precautions.
Please allow 24 to 72 hours after the procedure for professional downtime. Hymen reconstruction is not covered by social security.

She will also advise you to stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs or oral anticoagulants for 15 days prior to the operation, to reduce the risk of bleeding.

In most cases, hymen repair is performed under local anesthesia, without the need for general anesthesia.

How is a hymenoplasty performed?

Hymen reconstruction is generally performed under local anaesthetic with light sedation (premedication), but the patient may opt for general anaesthetic if she so wishes: in this case, prior consultation with the anaesthetist is required.

Hymenoplasty surgery consists of resecting hymen remnants at the level of the scar, to revive the tissues before suturing them.

The revived wound edges are sutured in 2 planes to allow reconstruction of a solid hymen. These absorbable stitches will disappear in 2-3 weeks, allowing normal tissue healing to take place.

If the edges are too far apart, a flap of vaginal mucosa is grafted between the two edges, using a simple suture.

Hymenoplasty is a minimally invasive hymenal reconstruction procedure lasting around 30 minutes.

What to do after hymenoplasty surgery?

Hospitalization is on an outpatient basis, enabling the patient to return home a few hours after the procedure.
Sutures are absorbable and disappear spontaneously 10 to 15 days after surgery.
No dressing is required, just simple washing with tap water (shower) and soap, and good personal hygiene.
The scar is concealed in the folds of the hymen and absolutely invisible.
The result is immediate, with closure of the hymen, but for 2/3 weeks, the stitches allow the procedure to be detected.
Patients often ask when they can have sexual relations after hymenoplasty? Dr. Santini recommends waiting at least 15 days before having intercourse, to allow the tissues to start healing.
