Matt or dark skin peeling

The peeling is a technique that uses the skin's natural ability to regenerate itself. The principle is to remove a more or less deep layer of skin, so that it can renew itself. Skin regeneration involves activating an inflammatory process, which can have side effects on even the most fragile skins. This is the case with ethnic skins, where peeling must be carried out with care to avoid causing skin lesions.

Dr. Christelle Santini in Paris offers peels for dark skins, for ethnic skins (phototypes 5 and 6) as well as for dark skins (phototypes 4, or pregnancy masks such as chloasma). In particular, this peel will preserve the cells responsible for pigmentation, the melanocytes, to induce gentle, even skin regeneration.

What are the indications for a dark skin peel in Paris?

Peeling is still a medical procedure, which requires a thorough understanding of the characteristics of each skin type, in order to adapt to it and offer a tailor-made treatment.

Generally speaking, ethnic skins can present several particularities:

  • they are thicker, which means that any active ingredient applied to them will take longer to act, with the risk of a lack of homogeneity;
  • They have a more oily surface skin film, resulting in more blackheads and more uneven skin texture;
  • they are also characterized by increased activity of the pigment cells, the melanocytes, which are by nature more active and therefore more reactive.

The risk of a traditional peel on dark skin is to cause irreversible damage:

  • An overly aggressive peel can destroy pigment cells, leading to vitiligo-type depigmentation spots;
  • too intense an inflammatory reaction increases the risk of rebound hyperpigmentation (IPH or inflammatory hyperpigmentation), with heterogeneous results marked by more or less brown spots.

To avoid these pitfalls, Dr Christelle Santini offers a specific peel for dark or dusky skin in Paris, with a dual objective:

  • guarantee even action of the peeling agent;
  • limit the inflammatory and pigmentary reaction, to prevent pigmentation rebound thanks to a gentle peel.

A peel like Mela-Peel, for example, can rejuvenate ethnic skins, treat pregnancy masks on fair skins, smooth dark skins, treat fragile skins without fear of hyperpigmentation, and sublimate the complexion and skin texture of black and dark skins.

What to do before a peel for dark skin?

Preparing dark skin for a safe peel is an essential step.

An initial consultation with Dr Santini allows us to check your phototype, any abnormal pigmentation (chloasma...) and your skin type (thickness, skin texture, blackheads...). Your aesthetic doctor will understand your expectations and suggest the most appropriate solution to meet them.

This can be a gentle peel such as a superficial fruit acid peel, or a depigmenting peel such as Mela-peel.
Dr. Santini takes medical photos and draws up an estimate.

To prepare for a dark skin peel, Dr. Santini prescribes a preparatory treatment to homogenize skin texture and put pigment cells to rest. This treatment should be carried out over a period of 2 to 4 weeks.

How is a dark skin peel performed in Paris?

The peel is performed on cleansed, make-up-free skin, usually using Activa Peel, at Dr Santini's practice on rue de la Pompe (75116 Paris).

A peel like Mela-Peel comes in the form of a paste, applied with a glove like a mask to the face. Its formula is enriched with lightening agents such as vegetable arbutin, phytic acid and kojic acid.

The paste is applied, insisting if necessary on darker areas, and left to work for a minimum of 8 hours. The patient can go home and simply rinse her face once the time has elapsed.

What to do after a peeling session for ethnic or dark skin?

This type of peel is very well tolerated, similar to a light peel, with no side effects or tingling. There may be a slight desquamation after a week, without the need for social eviction.

A special treatment should be continued at home (Mela peel cream) with good sun protection.

Gradually, skin regains an even radiance, with a silkier, smoother texture.
