Superficial peel or light peel

The skin is a living organ, possessing formidable regenerative and reparative qualities. Peeling techniques take advantage of this principle: the aim of a light or superficial peel is to remove part of the epidermal layer, allowing it to regenerate with rejuvenated, smoother tissue.

Dr Christelle Santini in Paris offers a light peel to combine both an aesthetic result, with softer, brighter skin, and a functional result, with skin freed of impurities and able to breathe better.

What are the indications for a superficial peel or a light peel in Paris?

The skin is made up of three superimposed layers:

  • the epidermis is the outermost layer, made up in part of dead cells, the corneocytes ;
  • The dermis is the intermediate support layer, vascularized and nutritious;
  • the hypodermis is the layer of subcutaneous fat, of varying thickness.

Light peeling aims to destroy part of the epidermal layer, so that it can renew itself from the germinative cells of its basal layer, located at the junction with the dermis.

This superficial exfoliation is most often carried out with fruit acids such as glycolic acid, which have the particularity of not being very aggressive and of diffusing slowly into the skin. Their action is therefore easily stopped before they reach the dermis, without the risk of side effects or strong desquamation.

Dr Christelle Santini offers superficial peeling in Paris with a dual objective:

  • to beautify the skin by removing excessively shiny skin film, boosting the complexion and radiance of the face, tightening dilated pores, exfoliating blackheads and smoothing fine lines and small imperfections;
  • to improve skin function by removing impurities, homogenizing skin texture and restoring skin pH.

A superficial peel improves tissue exchange, reduces the risk of acne pimples developing and improves trans-epidermal penetration of cosmetic active ingredients.

What should I do before a light peel or superficial peel?

An initial consultation with Dr Santini allows us to understand your needs, the causes and whether superficial peeling could be the solution.

It's important to understand the expectations of each treatment, so as to compare them with the limitations of each technique.
A superficial peel, for example, will produce a slight rejuvenating effect (light fine lines, brown spots, etc.), but will not be sufficient to treat deep wrinkles or marked photoaging.

Dr Santini takes medical photos and draws up an estimate.

She explains the precautions to be taken before any peel, and in particular the need to protect yourself from UV rays for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after: these are average times, which she then adapts to your phototype and particularities.

To prepare your skin, Dr Santini prescribes a cream to be applied at home every day, 2 to 4 weeks before the peel.

The aim is twofold:

  • exfoliate dead skin to homogenize skin texture and ensure even penetration of the peeling agent;
  • rest pigment cells, to avoid rebound pigmentation, such as post-inflammatory pigmentation or natural pigmentation caused by UV rays.

Depending on your objectives, Dr. Santini will tell you whether you need several fruit acid peeling sessions, and how often.

How is the superficial peel or fruit acid peel performed?

The peel is performed on cleansed, make-up-free skin, usually using a micellar solution, at Dr Santini's practice on rue de la Pompe (75116 Paris).

The fruit acid is chosen according to the desired effect, the most common being glycolic acid.

The gesture is harmonious and homogeneous, adapting to the lesions to be corrected.

An emollient treatment is then applied, and other treatments can be combined as required, such as a session of LED phototherapy.

What to do after a superficial peel or light peel?

The beauty of a light peel with fruit acids is that it has no marked side effects: you can have this treatment between two professional appointments, at any time of the year, without the risk of your skin peeling.

At most, there may be a slight reddening of the face.

You can return to your usual activities, with the exception of anything that may cause congestion of the skin: sunbathing, steam baths, saunas...

Dr Santini prescribes an emollient treatment and recommends a good sun protection, normally for at least two weeks.

This gentle peel can be repeated regularly, without risk to the skin.
